Supplemental Uninsured/Uninsured Motorist Limits Increased
A new law was passed requiring Insurance Companies to offer their insured the option of purchasing $250,000/ $500,000 Supplemental Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Benefits "SUM coverage" to protect against uninsured or underinsured drivers. This increased SUM coverage will protect the insured when he or she is the victim of an accident and the other vehicle involved in the accident has no insurance or minimal insurance. Generally SUM coverage is very inexpensive. Many times clients come to us after an accident and we find that while they have substantial coverage to protect themselves when they are liable for an accident they do not have the same amount of to. We will gladly review your existing coverage or answer coverage to protect themselves when the person responsible for the accident is not adequately insured.
Recently Stanley J. Sanders was able to obtain an additional $260,000.00 for one of our clients who was severely injured in a motor vehicle accident. The party responsible for the accident only had a $25,000.00 policy. If our client did not have adequate SUM coverage under his own policy, his sole remedy would have been the defendant's $25,000.00 policy. Because he had purchased $300,000.00 SUM coverage, he was able to collect proper compensation for his injuries.
Sanders, Sanders, Block, Woycik, Viener & Grossman, P.C. recommends that you purchase as much SUM coverage as you are able to. We will gladly review your existing coverage or answer any questions you have when you are renewing your insurance or purchasing new coverage.
