Recent Trial Verdicts
E. David Woycik recently obtained a jury verdict of One Million Dollars for a client who sustained compression fractures in her back as a result of a motor vehicle accident in which their vehicle was struck by a police car. While the defendant, the City of New York Police Department, argued in that case that the police car had sirens on and was heading towards an emergency, an argument which would effectively eliminate plaintiffs ability to recover, the jury obviously believed Mr. Woycik and the witnesses put on by the plaintiff who testified that the police car did not have any sirens on when it entered the intersection against the light. Mr. Woycik was able to convince a jury to give our client a large verdict where initially it may have appeared that there was not a valid claim.

In other settlements, Marty Block recently settled an underinsurance claim just prior to the arbitration hearing for $700,000. Fortunately for our client, the vehicle in which he was a passenger had a large underinsurance policy protecting the vehicle's occupants. The liability coverage for the defendant vehicle was only a minimum policy. Had it not been for the underinsurance, the recovery for this client would have only been $10,000. Please make sure your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is as high as your liability coverage.

In another case, a client of ours was injured as the result of the negligence of a U.S. Post Office Truck. The case was recently settled for $450,000. The client's prior attorneys had recommended the client settle for a significantly lower amount. Through extensive efforts from our office we were able to greatly increase the recovery for our clients. Another client was injured in a construction accident several years ago. His matter was recently settled in Suffolk County for $ 460,000. We were also able to have the workmen's compensation lien significantly reduced.

Finally, Joseph B. Viener obtained a settlement of $200,000 on behalf of a 21 year old client following three mediation sessions before a retired Judge and Attorneys representing 5 other injured parties and two insurance companies. Mediations are often the most efficient means to resolve even the largest and most complicated cases.

Be a Friend tell a Friend
Peeling paint is like having a loaded gun in your home. It is very dangerous for young children to be exposed to lead paint. Help spread the word. Attorneys from our office have been regularly speaking at PTA meetings throughout Long Island and New York City to educate parents on the dangers of lead paint and their legal rights. If we have not spoken at your school, please have your PTA representative contact Marcia Stevelman of our office to make arrangements. Call 1-800-4-LEAD-HELP
